city_port_st_lucie_signHere at the Offices of Attorney Morgan Jaye McGrath, an operating partner at the Berman Law Group, we represent families that have suffered from a wrongful death scenario resulting from a motorcycle accident. Just recently, there was a deadly motorcycle crash in Jensen Beach, Florida. We are all saddened by the news.

Unfortunately, these things do happen out there on those dangerous roads.

What Happened

On April 1st, 2019, Port St. Lucie police and St. Lucie County Fire Rescue responded to reports of a crash at the intersection near Selvitz Road and St. James Boulevard in the city.

Upon their arrival, motorcyclist Isabel Borges was pronounced dead at the scene. Friends of Borges told the media that they were supposed to meet up around 8:30 a.m. at a gas station in Fort Pierce. They were then going to ride their Harley-Davidson motorcycles to a restaurant in Okeechobee.

Michael Purcell, a close friend of Borges who was set to meet up with her, said when she did not show, he began to worry. Purcell said he made several attempts to reach Borges on her cellphone, but she did not answer.

According to police records, Borges was traveling northbound on Selvitz Road when she was hit head-on by a Honda Civic. The driver of that car was identified as Christian White.

Troubled Suspect

According to the arrest affidavit, White had been visiting friends in West Palm Beach on Clematis Street. Police said White “had an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his mouth and person and his eyes were bloodshot red and glassy.” Police later confirmed that White indeed had drugs in his system.

“He never should’ve been out, he never should have been out on the streets driving,” Purcell said.

Borges died at the scene. White is being charged on multiple charges including vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, and possession of MDMA.

According to police records, this wasn’t White’s first arrest. He has quite the checkered past. In September of 2018, he was arrested on suspicion of robbing a cellphone. In August of 2017, White was arrested on suspicion of cocaine possession.

Meanwhile, Borges’ friends said it will take some time before they have closure.

“I hope he gets held accountable to the full extent of the law’s maximum sentence. He didn’t just take one person’s life. He took a part of all our lives,” Purcell said.

Borges’ funeral was on Saturday at Seawinds Funeral Home in Stuart. Our condolences go out to her family and all those close to her.
