Tennis star Venus Williams has settled a wrongful death lawsuit after a fatal car crash in Palm Beach County Florida in June 2017.
Terms of the settlement between Williams and the estate of Jerome Barson, 78, were not disclosed, according to the Associated Press.
Barson’s wife, Linda, was fatally injured in the chain-reaction car accident involving Williams. According to Palm Beach Gardens police, an unidentified third vehicle illegally cut off Williams as she tried to cross a busy highway near her home, trapping her in an intersection when her light turned red. She was T-boned by the Barsons’ Hyundai shortly after 1 p.m. on June 9.
According to an investigative report, neither Barson nor Venus Williams violated the other’s right of way.
“The unknown dark-colored vehicle … started a sequence of events resulting in [Barson] crashing into [Williams],” the report said, via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “Based upon this investigation and relevant Florida state statutes, no charges will be filed in this case.”
