In wake of the deadly storm, cities and residents worked diligently to repair homes and clear debris from the road. One city in Southwest Florida is being held responsible for a teen’s death in wake of the storm.
The family of a Cape Coral woman who died in a car accident six days after Hurricane Irma, has settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the city for $200,000.
The City of Cape Coral received a notification that a tree was blocking a stop sign at a local intersection one day before the deadly crash, according to court documents.
The woman’s family said in the lawsuit that the Hurricane Irma debris should have been removed and it would have prevented the tragedy.
“As far as the justice that needs to be done…the City needs to take responsibility. They should have been on top of that,” the driver of the other car involved in the crash told reporters.
